Fragile Future
Recent cultural shifts have produced overlaps of practices, methods, and approaches where the discipline of architecture cross-pollinates with other creative arts. Situated Practice operates within this fertile terrain. We develop creative projects that are physically situated and engaged with contemporary social, spatial, and ecological conditions. In doing so, we address key emerging issues in our world by exploring sites where these issues are made manifest. Outcomes combine media and include site-specific installations, performative interventions, designs, and events.
Projects this year address instabilities on a global scale, where trans-national action is paramount. Some projects engage with sites where the impact of climate change is unfolding in the here and now rather than some abstract future. Other projects confront the enduring histories of colonial and racial power asymmetries and the need for community formation. Yet others focus on mass-media responses to the current Covid pandemic. These are challenging subject areas that we meet with confidence in our agency to modify these systems for the better. This diverse range of work demonstrates a commitment to the idea of practice as a political operation within the public realm, where each project aims to reimagine the role of the public practitioner in the 21st Century.
